Search engine optimisation is as much about educating new customers as it is about updating websites. Some customers visit our offices and look very confused when we talk about their search engine optimisation strategy and what they are looking to achieve with there website marketing.
Over the years search engine optimisation by it's very nature has become a thing of assumptions and myths which generally do not relate in any way to the techniques used to improve a websites traffic through organic search results.
Although search engine optimisation is an industry in itself we have compiled a list of frequently asked questions which every website owner should read before starting their journey into SEO
- How much will it cost to be number one in Google?
This is the classic 'how long is a piece of string' question. There is no standard cost or time frame to rank highly on Google or any other search engine. High rankings on search engines are based on detailed research on your business competitors, keyword phrases, link building and on-page optimisation. - I'm to busy to keep updating my website!
This one is common sense really, if you cannot invest an hour or two per week to update your website then why would search engines give you a high ranking? Also as the website owner who is better placed to keep the site up to date, relevant and interesting to your potential customers. - I don't 'do' social media
We find that many customers are intimidated by social media finding it all a bit too complicated. Most search engines see social media as a way to identify new and relevant content. Luckily with modern websites any update you make can be sent to your social media accounts automatically, managing all of your social accounts with ease. - My site was optimised yesterday why am I still number 15 in Google?
This one is a very popular question when starting to optimise any website. When a page on your site is optimised the change is visible to the site visitor straight away. But the change is not visible to the search engine straight away. The search engine will not be aware of any changes until the site is 'crawled' (reviewed). There is a delay as lists of pages are added to search results in a process known as indexing. These processes can mean that a change in page ranking can take a month to six weeks to take affect. - Just add keywords and I'll be number one?
This is the classic SEO myth, all you need to do is add keywords to jump straight to number one! Google and Bing no longer look at keywords as a primary way of identifiying a pages focus. They have complex processes that analysis hundreds of factors relating to your page and the site in general. They are comparing your site to your competitors to decide which pages offer the best result for the person searching.
